The Board is expected to work for Your businesss
As part of your Non Executive Board, I insist on being a working board member.
Here are some of the situations where you do you need the full supports and assistance of your Board of Directors:
- You may want to switch tracks, explore export market
- Buy-up competitors
- Succession planning
- Divesture of your business
- Major changes or optimization projects
These are but a few of the situations where you should expect sparring and assistance from your Board, and not just controlling and follow-up
On the other hand, when things are progressing according to your business plan, your Board should help to ensure that you are not resting on our laurels.
It can be difficult to maintain a constant focus on new opportunities for development and growth of a company that has been led for many years.
As a new member to the Board, as an external and experienced co-pilot, I would have an easier job viewing things from above.
The Board needs to set ambitious targets – and be prepared to assist in obtaining them
I view the role of a Board as a combination of making demands and setting targets – and be ready to assist the management in meeting them.
I will both assist and challenge you. You can expect that I am a close sparring partner sharing my knowledge, but at the same time I have expectations that you deliver on the targets set.
Obviously, at the end of the day you as the owner and manager makes the decisions.
With years of experience as a director and manager, I know a number of methods that can help you – both in daily operation and at the strategic level.
If you are not quite ready for a new member of your Board yet – or would you like to get to know me a little better – please feel free to require my services, either for sparring, interim management or project management.
Further, I am associate partner in ASNET, Professional Boards – please refer to ASNET
